If you are using Analog as your log file analyzer, then you are probably aware that it hasn’t been updated in some time.

I’ve modified the tree.c source file to enable Analog to detect new platforms:

  • iPhone/iPod
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 7
  • Android
  • BlackBerry

Download the new tree.c here and compile Analog again.

On MacOS X (G5 or Intel) you might want to edit src/Makefile and add -03 -fast to the CFLAGS.

Today, I received my new Mac Pro and I’m about to move all software from my aging PowerMac G5 to this new machine. As I’d like to make a clean install of everything, I’m downloading all the latest versions of the software I use regularly. This is especially necessary as I’m moving from the PowerPC (G5 2x 2.5 GHz) processor to the new Intel Nehalem processor family (2x 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon) and thus I need to update my applications to the Intel/Universal versions.

Last Monday, released the January ’09 numbers for the top 25 social networks.

I decided to have a closer look at those numbers and compare it with the numbers from another audience measurement company: Quantcast

As you can see from the two images below, there is a big difference in the numbers from Quantcast and Compete. uses a U.S. based panel for its reach estimates. Quantcast uses an inference-based, direct measurement methodology. Quantcast also offers a direct measurement solution for web site publishers. Read the rest of this entry »
